Road Trip 2010: Fernandina Beach, FL

Our last stop on our road trip, before heading home, was to visit the beach in Florida.  None of us had ever been to Fernandina Beach, and it was close to the border, so we chose to go there.  It was a nice beach and since it was on a Monday, there were very few people there.  The water was freezing cold, but the weather was awesome and we enjoyed our time on the beach.

Unfortunately, the picture quality isn't very good because we had been changing the setting on the camera and forgot to change them back before taking these pictures.

We had such a fun-filled week!

Road Trip 2010: Savannah, GA

After Hilton Head, we went to Savannah, GA.  I have always wanted to go to Savannah.  Everyone that I know that has been, has nothing but good things to say about it.  We loved that there was free public transportation that picked us up from our hotel.  We went to River Street and took the free ferry boat ride.  Then we walked around River Street for a while.  I had envisioned it being classier, so we were disappointed in the dirtiness of that part of the city.  I would like to go back to Savannah sometime and explore other places.

We stayed in the historic section at Country Inn and Suites.  We were happy with the stay.  It had an indoor pool, which the girls loved.

Road Trip 2010: Hilton Head, SC

Our next stop was to Hilton Head, SC.  None of us had been there before and this was Sarah's first time to SC.  We stopped by the beach.  This was the only time since going to Hawaii many years ago that Andy and I have been to both the mountains and the beach in the same week.  The weather was perfect and the beach was extremely crowded, though not too many people ventured into the cold, cold water.  The girls had a blast playing in the sand.

Once we were done playing on the beach, the girls played in the water fountain sprinklers for a bit.  I had expected them to run through them, but the water scared Ella somewhat and the water was cold.

Not a Pillow Pet

Arin has been asking for a Pillow Pet for at least two months.  We had planned to buy the girls each one for our road trip.  However, we waited too long and all of the good ones were sold out.  Andy had seen large stuffed animals at Wal-Mart, so we thought we'd try to pass those off as pillow pets to the girls.  We gave Arin a rabbit and Ella a caterpillar.  Here's how the conversation went:

Daddy:  Look, Arin, we got you a Pillow Pet.
Arin:  That's not actually a Pillow Pet, daddy.
Daddy:  Do you like your Pillow Pet?
Arin:  Yes, I like it, but it's not really a Pillow Pet.
Daddy:  Well, I am going to call it a Pillow Pet.
Arin:  Well, you can call it a Pillow Pet and I am going to call it NOT a Pillow Pet!

Road Trip 2010: Petting Farm

Somewhere between Whitesburg, GA and Hilton Head, SC, we saw a sign on the side of the road for a petting farm and since we had no real schedule to follow, we decided it'd be the perfect spot to stop and let the girls stretch their legs and run around.  It turned out that the petting farm was outside of a gas station.  It was a neat place and it was FREE!  They also offered food for the animals for a dollar a bag.  The girls LOVED this place.
