Shortly after Andy and I got married, I found this site of odd holidays. At the time, I picked one monthly holiday (for example chocolate month) and I mailed my nieces and nephews something related to that monthly holiday (they each got a chocolate bar and chocolate fun facts for chocolate month). I recently thought about that project again and I thought it would be fun to incorporate it into Arin's "school" activities. Instead of doing odd monthly holidays, we are going to focus more on the odd daily holidays.
According to the site, today, March 1st, is Pig Day!
We made a piggy bank. For the body, we used an empty lime juice container (shaped like a lime). The cap is the snout. I cut a slit in the top for the coins and I poked a hole in the end opposite the cap (for the tail). Arin glued on two wiggly eyes, four foam beads (for feet), two felt triangles (ears) and a curled pipe cleaner (tail).

I've been thinking about how to incorporate more holidays into our routine around here. I got a book a while back called the Book of Days that lists all sorts of wierd and minor holidays. I like the idea of picking one a month to celebrate. That's a manageable idea.
Cute piggy by the way.
You have inspired me. I've been wanting to be more organized & creative about crafts, activities, games, "lessons", etc. for my almost 3 yr. old son & you've helped me do that. I went to the website you linked to (about the daily "holidays") and now I'm going to try my best to do creative things with him using that list. Thank you so much! I'm already planning out the week. Yay!
